Bharata Natyam for Beginners with Nrityaja School of Dance
Embark on a graceful journey into the world of Bharata Natyam, one of India’s most revered classical dance forms, with Nrityaja School of Dance. This ancient art, rich in cultural significance, has a history that spans over 2000 years, offering a deep connection to Indian heritage, spirituality, and artistic expression.
In this beginner-friendly class, students will be guided by Paridnya Kallyanpur, who will introduce the fundamental techniques, movements, and hand gestures that define Bharata Natyam. The course is designed to provide a strong foundation while encouraging students to learn at a comfortable pace that fosters confidence and enjoyment. Key elements of the class include:
– Body conditioning: Exercises to strengthen and build flexibility for dance.
– Non-locomotive movements: Learning foundational postures and movements.
– Single hand gestures: Exploring the expressive hand gestures of Bharata Natyam.
– And more.
Students will also be introduced to classical texts like the *Abhinaya Darpanam* and *Natya Shastra*, offering an initial understanding of the historical and cultural context of Bharata Natyam and other Indian classical dance forms. The learning environment will be warm and inclusive, allowing students to enjoy the process at their own pace.
Expectations:
We encourage a positive and committed approach to learning. Regular attendance, punctuality, and respectful conduct are important values upheld in our classes.
Dress Code: While Salwar Kameez with Dupatta is recommended for ease of movement, other modest and comfortable attire is also welcome for beginners.
